Introduction

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Sphere Entertainment Co. have announced the development of Sphere Abu Dhabi, a landmark immersive entertainment venue set to be constructed on Yas Island at a cost of $1.7 billion.

This marks the first Sphere venue outside the United States, with completion anticipated by the end of 2029.

Venue Features

Located between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Sphere Abu Dhabi will be surrounded by lush greenery and will be in close proximity to other attractions and theme parks on Yas Island.

The venue will accommodate up to 20,000 attendees, depending on the configuration, and will host a range of events, including immersive Sphere Experiences, concert residencies, sporting events, conferences, product launches, and major brand events.

Sphere Abu Dhabi will utilize advanced experiential technologies to deliver multi-sensory entertainment experiences.

Cultural Integration

The venue's exterior, known as the Exosphere, will feature a large-scale spherical LED display that aims to showcase Emirati culture through immersive art installations and visual storytelling.

Plans are in place for productions centered on Emirati heritage and culture, as well as performances from local Arabic artists and international music stars.

Economic Impact

Sphere Abu Dhabi is strategically positioned near Zayed International Airport, which is expected to enhance Yas Island's role as a global events and tourism destination.

The venue is projected to create thousands of local jobs and contribute to Abu Dhabi's tourism growth and economic diversification initiatives.

DCT Abu Dhabi will work with various entities, including the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Department of Energy, Taqa, Etihad Rail, and Aldar, to support infrastructure development and transportation access related to the project.

In a statement, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasized, "Abu Dhabi has always built for the long term, and Sphere Abu Dhabi is a powerful demonstration of that commitment...

Together, we are creating a venue that will draw our community, visitors, creators and investors to Yas Island and Abu Dhabi for decades to come."

James L.

Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sphere Entertainment, added, "Sphere Abu Dhabi is the first step in realizing our vision for a global network of venues...

UAE Oral Wegovy Approval Turns Weight-Loss Demand Into a Clinical Discipline Test

The Emirates Drug Establishment approved Wegovy as an oral semaglutide tablet for long-term weight management in adults in the UAE. The UAE is only the second country after the United States to approve and receive supply of the once-daily pill, with doctors citing around 17 percent weight loss over about a year for patients who stayed on treatment.
