Dubai Approves AI Park Design Challenge In Municipality Project Package
Dubai approved a municipality project package that includes an AI-powered park design challenge, an AED50 million falcon market and an 8-kilometre Dubai Creek lighting project due in the first quarter of 2027.

Dubai Municipality Gets A Project Package With AI Design
Dubai has approved a new Dubai Municipality project package built around a public-sector test case for using artificial intelligence in urban planning.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the package as part of work linked to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The package includes the Dubai Falcon Market, the Dubai Creek Lighting project, the First AI-Powered Park Design Challenge in Dubai and collaborations with internationally known architects on landmark projects.
Dubai Municipality described the projects as part of a plan to combine urban facilities, cultural identity, sustainability and advanced technology.
The AI design challenge is the clearest technology element in the approval.
Dubai said the initiative will use AI technologies during the planning and design phases for parks and public spaces.
It will also use data analytics to study community needs and public-space usage patterns before designs are selected.
The challenge targets designers, urban environment specialists, university students, researchers, startups and innovation leaders in AI, technology and design.
Dubai said residents will also take part in the final selection process alongside a judging panel of internationally known designers and senior Dubai Government executives.
Creek Lighting Adds A 2027 Urban Infrastructure Deadline
The Dubai Creek Lighting project adds a defined infrastructure schedule to the package.
The project spans 8 kilometres and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
Dubai Municipality said the system will illuminate public walkways, creek access points, heritage markets, building fronts and waterfront paths.
The stated purpose is to create a safer and more active night-time environment around one of Dubai's historic commercial and cultural corridors.
The project is not only a beautification plan.
The official announcement links the creek work to waterfront activity, historical districts and visitor movement after sunset.
The completion date makes it the most time-bound element in the package.
Falcon Market Carries A Cost And Heritage Brief
The Dubai Falcon Market adds a capital figure to the approval.
Dubai said the project will cover about 50,000 square feet and cost around AED50 million.
The market is planned as an integrated specialised falcon market with retail outlets for falcons and related supplies, cultural and heritage event spaces, visitor services and a veterinary clinic.
Dubai Municipality framed it as part of broader work to develop rural and desert areas while preserving local heritage.
The project also shows how the municipality is bundling cultural facilities with urban development rather than treating the AI challenge as a standalone technology exercise.
The same approval covers data-led public-space design, creek lighting, heritage retail infrastructure and architecture partnerships.
Kengo Kuma Collaboration Expands The Design Brief
Dubai Municipality also said its Urban Planning and Design Lab is working with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma on the Reservoir Park project, Kuma's first park project in Dubai.
The announcement did not give a cost or completion date for Reservoir Park.
The named collaboration strengthens the design side of the package, but the operating details remain uneven across the projects.
Dubai gave a cost for the Falcon Market and a deadline for Dubai Creek Lighting, while the AI park challenge still depends on future evaluation, community participation and winning designs.
For Dubai Municipality, the package now turns urban innovation into several deliverables: an AED50 million heritage market, an 8-kilometre lighting project due in the first quarter of 2027, an AI-led park design challenge and a named architecture collaboration without a disclosed timetable.
