Dubai Mallathon Returns as a Summer Fitness Push Across Major Malls
Sheikh Hamdan has directed the launch of the second edition of Dubai Mallathon, turning major malls into climate-controlled fitness venues from June 15. The programme links public health, family participation and Dubai’s quality-of-life agenda through free walking, running and community activities.

Dubai turns malls into summer fitness venues
Dubai Mallathon is returning as a three-month community fitness initiative that will move walking, running and organised activities into major shopping malls during the hottest part of the year.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed the launch of the second edition, with the programme set to begin on June 15.
The model is simple but strategically useful for Dubai: convert large, air-conditioned retail spaces into public exercise routes when outdoor activity is difficult.
The initiative is designed to make sport a daily habit rather than a seasonal campaign, with participation open to citizens, residents and visitors.
Six malls anchor the second edition
This year's edition runs until Sept.15, 2026, with routes spread across six retail destinations.
Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates are included.
Mirdif City Centre and Dubai Festival City Mall are also on the route map, while Deira City Centre and Dubai Hills Mall complete the venue list.
Together, they provide safe, climate-controlled spaces for walking, running and other activities through the summer months.
Daily participation is scheduled between 6:00am and 10:00am.
Participants will be able to use dedicated walking and running tracks, while the wider programme includes sports activities and community sessions designed for different ages and fitness levels.
Quality-of-life policy meets retail infrastructure
The initiative is tied to the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which aims to strengthen the emirate's position among the world's best cities for quality of life.
It also supports the UAE's Year of the Family 2026 by encouraging families to take part in sport together and build shared community experiences.
That policy link is important because Dubai Mallathon is not only a sports event.
It uses existing retail infrastructure to deliver a public-health and community-engagement programme, giving malls a civic role beyond shopping and entertainment.
Inclusion expands the participation base
The second edition includes activities for women at Dubai Mall and Mirdif City Centre, as well as dedicated initiatives for senior citizens and People of Determination.
Qualified trainers will be present across the venues.
Their role is to run warm-up sessions, offer guidance and help participants exercise safely according to age and fitness level.
Participation is free and does not require prior registration.
Visitors can collect an initiative wristband at participating malls, which provides access to offers and benefits from selected stores, restaurants and cafés.
Rewards, discounts and incentives increase with participation levels and attendance frequency.
A mall-running record sets the benchmark
The programme is organised in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council.
Its first edition drew thousands of participants and secured a Guinness World Record in mall running.
At Dubai Hills Mall, more than 1,300 people joined one race.
The next measure of success will be whether a longer three-month format can turn that event momentum into repeat attendance.
If Dubai can keep families, employees and casual visitors active through the summer, the Mallathon will become a practical example of how city policy, retail property and public health can operate through the same venue network.
